- Test for diabetes in any children presenting with one of the 4 T’s: tiredness / thirst / thinner / toilet
- Advice should be obtained from the paediatric specialist diabetes team during working hours or for urgent advice from the receiving paediatric team out of hours.
- Any child up to the age of 16 with suspected diabetes should be referred the same day to the receiving Paediatric Medical team at either Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital, or Dr Gray’s Hospital.

- Older children and adolescents should be referred to adult services.
