In Grampian there are specialist clinics for people with diabetes and these are run by consultants, specialty doctors and senior trainees. All these doctors have had advanced training in diabetes and many provide other more specialist diabetes clinics such as pregnancy and pregnancy-planning services, young person’s services and diabetes technology services.
Specialty doctors have had different career backgrounds, often in general practice but also research or other specialties. They have had additional diabetes training and work part-time at the clinic.
As Aberdeen is a specialty training centre for doctors wishing to specialise in diabetes, many clinics will also be supported by these senior trainees.
